Constantinople with its complex and rich heritage and history still fascinates millions of its admirers through the centuries. This subject guide will introduce to you the history of Byzantine Constantinople from the 4th century when Emperor Constantine founded Constantinople as “Nova Roma Constantinopolitana” in the eastern Roman Empire to the 15th century when the imperial capital was sacked by the Ottomans. Within the main themes of the subject guide, titles address a wide range of topics including city walls, water supplies, topography, palaces, archaeology, public monuments, churches, monasteries, daily life, urban development, visits of foreign people etc.
KU faculty members and students of relevant departments, as well as ANAMED’s and AKMED’s fellow researchers have a keen interest in matters related to the history of the Byzantine Constantinople which creates the necessity for a wide variety of resources and tools. Suna Kıraç, ANAMED and AKMED Libraries host rich collections of printed and electronic material, especially Special Collections on Byzantine History – The Sir Steven Runciman Collection, The Slobodan Ćurčić, The Jacques Lefort Collection, The Eunice Dauterman Maguire & Henry Maguire Collection and The Anthony Bryer Special Collection are the foundation stones of the ANAMED Library collection and they are waiting to be discovered by researchers.
Within this scope, we created this Lib Guide complementary to the Libraries’ collection that will assist those interested with their research and will further support their knowledge on the subject. Browsing the menu, readers will come across resources that comprise both general interest as well as academic, so that they will be able to synthesize them according to their information needs and professional expertise.
